Gerbillus/Taterillus

Scientific Name:

This is a gerbil species I got from a friend in Germany. There is nothing known about their origin. I have currently no idea what species it might be. I think they might be a gerbillus or taterillus species. Recently someone in Germany showed me similar animals, they where supposed to be offspring of wildcaught animals, and where determined as Gerbillus nanus. So it might be Wagners' gerbil I have here.
They are beautiful animals! Very tame!

Following are a few pictures (better pictures will soon be available):

Just after waking up, ready to take a sand bath. They really need sand, as you can see, they get very greasy otherwise. Although they are greasy in this picture, you can see the differences in colour, the one animal on the right is  more reddish, she has less ticking than the others. You can also clearly see their extremely long tails here.

In this picture you can see an adult male, here his thick neck is visible. The males have a very fatty neck, when they are adult, females don't have that.

Maintenance and behaviour in captivity:

So far they seem very docile in a group. They never seem to fight or argue. Towards humans they are extremely docile. They don't seem to have any fear.
Because of their fine fur, they need to be kept on sand, or at least need a permanent sand bath.
Mine love to run in a running wheel!
